Design // Our June Future of Women LA Breakfast with LA Design Festival, Domino, and ROW DTLA

Last week, we teamed up with the LA Design Festival, Domino, and ROW DTLA to host a Los Angeles breakfast all about design! We gathered at The Manufactory, a collaboration between James Beard Award-winning chefs Elizabeth Prueitt and Chad Robertson of San Francisco’s iconic Tartine Bakery, and Chris Bianco of Phoenix’s legendary Pizzeria Bianco. The Manufactory is located in the ROW DTLA, a historic district in Downtown LA that's reimagining spaces for creativity, retail, and art. The Manufactory's Pastry Chef Leah Chin-Katz and Chefs Katie Hagan-Whelchel and Alyssa Lisle treated us to some of their favorite dishes as we dove into a breakfast conversation about design with our partners, ROW DTLA, Domino, a resource devoted to decorating, entertaining, and gardening in the home, the LA Design Festival, a festival honoring LA's rich design culture, and our speakers! Jessica Romm Perez, Editor in Chief of Domino, moderated the panel with women in the design industry, learning about the inspiration for their work and discussing the intersection of design and impact. We wrapped up the morning with our partners, The Sill, Saint Olio, Buffy, and Lo & Sons, who treated us to some of their designs and shared with us how they are designing with impact in mind.

Our May Future of Women Mexico City Dinner with Claudette Zepeda at Sobremesa

This month, we teamed up with 2019 James Beard Semifinalist Chef Claudette Zepeda-Wilkins. We gathered at Sobremesa, a beautiful space in La Roma dedicated to the culinary arts and run by Lucía and Micaela, to enjoy a dinner. We heard about the inspiration for Claudette's dishes as we sipped mezcal from Yola Mezcal, a Oaxacan women-owned and operated mezcalaria. Onora Casa, a women-run collection of Mexican handmade textiles and objects, treated us to some of their designs and we ended the evening with coffee from our friends at BUNA, a local coffee roaster that works with Mexican coffee producers to develop, transform, and share delicious coffee.

Cannabis // Our April Future of Women Breakfast with Healthyish and Broccoli Magazine

This month, we teamed up with Healthyish, a site from Bon Appétit about feel-good food and living, and Broccoli Magazine, an international magazine for cannabis lovers, to host a Los Angeles breakfast with Chef Minh Phan of Porridge + Puffs and a panel of women working at the intersection of cannabis and food. A special thank you to our Healthyish and Broccoli collaborators, Chef Minh Phan and her Porridge + Puffs team, and our moderator Anja Charbonneau.

In February, we explored Diversity in Film and in March we talked about Human Rights, Journalism, and Geopolitics. This month, we gathered at the women-owned photo studio Light Lab in the Atwater Village neighborhood of Los Angeles with 60 women from across LA to talk about Food Entrepreneurship and enjoy delicious and innovative dishes by the award-winning Chef Santana Caress Benítez.
